What does it mean?

We have found that most folks don't know the difference between an "ISP", a "domain Registrar" or "domain hosting". Have you ever heard anyone say, "There must be something wrong with the server, I can't get online." That's when the lessons regarding terms begin. We've assembled a small list of terms below and on the right side of this page.

Hosting-Server

Hosting is the physical computer (or server) on which your site resides.

DNS

DNS stands for Domain Name Servers. Think of this as the great switching station in the sky. Using a unique number called an IP address, name servers route your domain name requests to your physical server. This is what keeps someone from creating a domain called "amazon.com" on their server and stealing requests for that domain. All requests are routed through the DNS servers.

Mail Clients (or programs) Outlook, Outlook Express, Entourage, Eudora, etc.

We offer advanced domain hosting to all of our clients. We have our own dedicated, secure servers so your site will be safe. Once we discover your needs, we will give you a quote for hosting that is included in all of our proposals.

Hosting with us is very advantageous to you and your business. We've already done the homework. We use a network that consists of six Gigabit Ethernet connections to the internet plus one DS-3 and one OC-3. In short, we lease servers from the big boys. Your connection will be fast, safe and secure. Also, the only domains on our servers are our clients. We monitor them and make sure they are in top shape 24/7.

Our team is the only group with shell access to the servers. This means security. Unlike hosting offered by so many companies for $10-$15/mo (just check your latest spam), nobody will be snooping around in your server that doesn't belong. How do some companies offer such low costs? Easy, there's hundreds or thousands of sites on every server. Each one using the same mail servers and allowing whoever subscribes access to the back end. That's like giving everyone in the city a key to your house and everyone has their own cupboard. Good luck keeping everyone else out of your food...and tools? What tools. I didn't see any tools in the garage. For only a few dollars more every month, we give you what only large ecommerce web sites have. Dedicated hosting.

We know our servers so another advantage is we don't have to try to figure out how your hosting company works before building your site. Then, if a problem arises, there's no waisted time trying to convince some bottom level techie that there's a problem with the server...assuming we could even get ahold of someone at 2:00am.

This is not the place to skimp...

Call our sales team for price quotes on hosting. We also have servers dedicated to hosting only. Get your own server whether we are building your site or not. Resell the space to whomever you wish!

Terms

ISP

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. This is the company that gives you your access phone number to the internet. They lease phone lines and numbers from the phone company and resell them to us. Phone lines hence, ISP's go down sometimes. The networks are almost always monitored so usually they're only down for a few minutes. Some examples of ISP's are Earthlink, AOL or Infostations.

Modem

The modem is that piece of hardware you use to connect your computer to your ISP. The most common modems are 56k internal, DSL, Cable or Satellite modems.

Domain Registrar

A domain registrar is simply a company that is given the right to register a domain name for you for a small fee. Visit our domain registration page to register your domain with our inexpensive, reliable affiliate registrar. A domain registrar is responsible for letting you know that nobody else has your domain name and registering it with Internic. Examples are Network Solutions and Domain Decisions. Though Network Solutions is usually more expensive, it is the most popular because it was the first until they were forced to share their data base with competitors to abolish the monopoly.
